House in Tanzania with Stunning Views and Large Grounds

House

The house was designed by a Dutch/ African architect and was built in 2008/2009 by the well known Tanzanian construction company Holtan.

The property is 13.6 acres with full title deed and is located at 1300 meters with full views to all sides: Mount Meru, Maasai plains and Mount Kilimanjaro (on a clear day). The property is surrounded by a natural stone wall (height 80cm to 120 cm).

There are two access roads to the property, both with a lockable gate.

The property is part of a former large coffee plantation, which has now been turned into a colobus monkey sanctuary.

The footprint of the house is 15 x 15 meters (225m2) and built on two levels. The key features and characteristics of the house are:

• hot water is supplied by a traditional African wood burning kuni boiler
• electricity supplied by new 12.5 kVA generator supported by solar panel and
• an additional 4kW petrol generator
• close to the kitchen is a professionally designed bread/pizza oven
• TV connection in library and dish on the roof
• anti-rodent devices in all areas

The property is looked after by a great team, including:

They are able to look after the property when we are away for several months.

An area of approximately 3 acres (out of a total 13.6 acres) has been cultivated, with:

• walled vegetable garden
• nursery

• lawns
• with flowering plants, including gingers, bougainvillea, hibiscus
• with fruit trees, including lemon, orange, lychee, pomegranate, coffee, pineapple
• animals, such as bushbabies, porcupine, colobus monkeys, duikers
• abundant birdlife (over 100 species), including bee-eaters , hornbills, weavers, cuckoos
• many mature indigenous trees, such as sausage trees, several acacia species, flame trees
• on the lawn between the house and the pond stands a glass/steel sculpture by Dorothee van Driel

The property is located at 1300 meter above sea level in Usa River, halfway between Arusha town and Kilimanjaro Airport
