Gambia is just 6 hours flying time from the UK. There is sunshine all year round and rainy season commences from end June to around end of September. The Gambia is becoming quite developed and there are many supermarkets should you require the food you are accustomed to in the UK. The Government water is clean to drink from the tap or bottled water is available. Fresh locally grown produce is available everywhere or you can even grow your own as there are local farmers who are more than willing to help you. Fresh fish is available everyday and the local fisherman go to fish in the morning and in the afternoon. Rice is the staple diet but there are many other produce such as cassava, potatoes, plantain, carrots, cabbage, green banana etc etc. The currency used here is called the Gambia Dalasis and the current exchange rate is approx 46 dalasis to 1 pound sterling. The local time is the same as GMT but changes by one hour when UK time clock moves forwards.
