This corner of south west Scotland is renowned for its unspoilt and varied scenery. There are excellent golfing facilities at Stranraer and Portpatrick, the usual field
sports and excellent rivers for fishing and some superb routes for walking. Attractions in the district include: Portpatrick starting point of the Southern Upland Way; Logan Botanic Gardens and Galloway Forest Park. The main routes into the district are the A77 travelling south from Ayr and the A75 travelling west from Carlisle or Dumfries.
